Southstudio were appointed Executive Architects for this flagship office refurbishment in Central London, designed by Sidell Gibson (Architects & Interiors). The six storey building occupies an entire city block, and was completed in the 1980's with an Art Deco interior aesthetic that had become dated. The project completely remodels the atrium and entrance areas into a contemporary sequence of spaces, making the building more marketable to future tenants while achieving a significant increase to the office floor plates.
The adopted proposals called for refurbishment of the building while remaining 80% occupied, with the upgrade to reflect both the prime location and also the status of the potential tenants. A new main entrance is formed on axis to the adjacent public square, allowing the atrium to be more visible and inviting to the public. The design solution increases the usable office floor space by 11%, via gallery floor extensions constructed into the existing atrium, enclosed by a new frameless glass wall. The remaining floors will be fitted out as they become available.
